Consider where the venue is and how easily you, your family, friends and guests will be able to access it – also consider broadening your search a few miles outside of your target area. You may be pleasantly surprised at what you find!

Determine your wedding venue budget, even if this just a ballpark figure to begin with. This will help you focus on which venues are the most practical to view and begin conversations with, as well as allow you to confidently explore what other services they can offer and at a price that fits your budget.

Chances are you have a wedding theme or colour scheme (or both) in mind. If you do, you may already have a feel of what type of venue works best with that theme. Are you looking for the charm and glamour of a stunning mansion or country house or perhaps you have your sights on a more cosy and rustic barn wedding setting?  Maybe you want a fun and relaxed outdoor marquee wedding, or perhaps you want to benefit from the facilities, wedding planner and staff a hotel venue may provide? 

How many guests you are inviting will often times determine which venue and sometimes venue type is fit for purpose.  If you 50 to 100 people attending a wedding you will have more choice of venues. If you have 400+ guests attending then you need to find a venue that can accomodate that many. Also consider if you would like to bring your own suppliers or use the facilities provided by the venue, and what the venue does or doesn’t allow regarding outside suppliers/catering etc. Finally find out about parking for guests too near the venue of your choice.

Some venues may seat 500+ people but it doesn’t mean that they have parking space for the same numbers. Always check and see where your guests can and will have to park on your wedding day, so that you can advise them ahead of time accordingly, especially if there are free parking options available.
